In Training

This is exciting.

I am in a new band, Olympics, and we have been busy. We already have 5 songs, and we plan on making more and more. I haven’t been this excited about music since I played my first show as Aid. I hope we can record soon, and get you, dear reader, some MP3’s to listen to. Until then, please come out to The Ghost Parlor August 9th for our first show ever, with Mt. Gigantic + Hunter Dragon. I am very, very excited for this band, as I have never felt comfortable playing music with anyone until my bandmates and I started playing together.
Excited.

I have been busy with that, but I want to take some time to tell you about a few albums you need to hear:

TaughtMe - Arms As Traps
Blake Henderson writes some of the best songs I have ever heard; their artwork is amazing; he is a genuinely nice person - but live, TaughtMe is incredible. If you missed them at The Dusty Bookshelf, do yourself a favor and order this CD from him and enjoy it.

Listen to “Twig” by TaughtMe

Xiu Xiu - The Air Force
Jamie Stewart and Caralee McElroy always make interesting albums. Sometimes, I don’t really care for some of the Xiu Xiu stuff, but this album is fantastic. Truly intense in the non-fratboy sense, and emotionally draining in the non-ex sense. It is a beautiful onslaught, and you should listen to it, and buy it when it comes out September 15th.

Listen to “Vulture Piano” by Xiu Xiu

Then, although I don’t have a full album by this artist, you need to hear Gummerman. I’ve only heard the songs that are on his Myspace, but they are great, he is great. It is one man who writes and plays all of the everything in these songs. They are powerful, and good. I wish I had an MP3 for you, I really dislike Myspace.

Hopefully I will be able to do things like this very often, because I love sharing what I like with you. If you have suggestions for things I should listen to, please comment with them, and I will send you another suggestion in return.
